Taketomi Island 10 minutes by boat from Ishigaki Island, a small island surrounded by coral with a perimeter of 9 kilometers; houses roofed with red tiles and stone walls; scenes from old Okinawa; designated by the national government as an area for preservation of its streets.
Kuro Island A heart-shaped island; known for its many cows; “Kuro shima cow festival” at the end of February is pretty exciting.
Kohama Island Well known for the TV drama “Chura-san”; located in the middle of Yaeyama Archipelago; the summit of Ufudaki mountain is known for its 360 degree view.
Iriomote Island Known as the Galapagos of the Orient; the biggest in Yaeyama Islands; 40 minutes by boat from Ishigaki Island; abundant nature and covered with tropical jungles; Iriomote wild cats are designated as protected species.
Hatoma Island A small island with a perimeter of 4 kilometers and located in the northern part of Iriomote Island; small population, but as many as 14 religious events a year; a stroll of Hatomanakamori is mentioned in the folk song “Hatoma bushi”.
Aragusuku Island Consists of two islands, Kamiji and Shimoji; about 400 meters between the two islands and possible to walk on the reef at low tide; no regular ferry service ; travel by tour from other islands is recommended.
Hateruma Island The southernmost Islands; the name of the island means “Coral in the farthest”;great place for observing the constellations; the only place where you are able to see 84 constellations out of 88.
Yonaguni Island Westernmost island; 117 kilometers to Ishigaki Island and 111 kilometers to Taiwan; surrounded by steep cliffs; breathtaking scenery.
